For many, driving by a stone home creates a set of emotions different from any other type of property. The look, the feel, the sense of space. If the home is in the Ontario country side it may conjure images of yesterday, quiet walks and evenings by the fire. For others it creates the opportunity to experience the security and warmth that can only be found in a stone home.

This stone home is an outstanding example of the type of structure that was built on farms by the early settlers. Constructed in the early 1840's .. from the stones they found on the land this was a working farm home.

Sited to capture the sun while being sheltered from the west winds this home has stood proud and strong for almost 170 years. Remarkably, it still retains so much of the original "feel" .. 2 foot thick walls .. exposed be beam ceilings and the sense of space to typical of settler homes.

This stone home was lucky enough to be owned since the 60's by the same family, who have used it more as a cottage - getaway than a full time residence. As family grew, and needs evolved, rather than make too many changes to the original structure, the family opted to have an addition architecturally designed to give them the added space they needed while being totally respectful of the heritage of the property. The result was a fantastic space - large master suite, main floor laundry and new luxurious bath - and a great room with a cathedral ceiling - finished off with an attached sunroom.

Because the home was often used by only couple, but could just as easily have an extended family staying the decision was to install electric baseboard heat so only the zones being used would be serviced. This was a system that served the family well.

Over the years ... winter or summer this home has been the source of so many good memories, the Coburg beach - crossing the street to golf or winter skiing have all added to the album.

Now, it's available for the next family ... to carry on the legacy.

VIA Rail stops every day just 10 minutes away at the Cobourg Station and from there it's an hour ride into Union Station. A strong community of local citizens now make the commute, you could join them.

Imagine ... getting to work from this country estate would be easier than fighting the traffic .. and the life your children could lead.
